Something new...everlasting flowers! The stem is copper and the flower is coloured and black glass. Made for indoors, not a garden stake, though that is also on my to- do list at some point!
The orange ones are made using powdered glass and it lends itself well to this project. Dramatic black flowers are on a long list of colours to try! The flowers are on 38 cm copper stems and cost £14 each or a set of 3 for £40.
24/02/21 New colour ways! Here is a new colour way that I have been experimenting with in the popular forest series.
21/02/21 New Lanterns! Lanterns have always been an immensely popular piece, with glass panels featuring some of our popular styles or personalised to make a nice gift. Recently, a new shape of lantern has become available, which still has 4 glass panels, but has a slightly different shape and is a smaller size. I am really looking forward to experimenting with the new shape and making some new designs to complement it!
20/02/21 New ways to present glass! Recently I have been experimenting with new ways to present the glass. Glass and steel backings offer some more contemporary ways of displaying the glass and I have been having great fun designing pieces that complement them. The first designs include a modern 'Distant fells' landscape, a new 'Spring meadow' design backed on glass and a piece I call 'life', inspired on my very popular 'Tree of life'. Can't wait to experiment further!
28/12/20- Really enjoying having time to experiment! Here is a version of my Woodland Path created using 3 thin pieces of glass. I painted trees etc into each piece ,so you can really get a sense of depth, looking into the wood . I was considering presenting it in a wooden stand, but opted in the end to curve it. This would look great with a candle behind it. It's a very chunky piece of glass! 25 X 20 cm and over 6mm thick.
19/12/20- Woodland Path Series The latest in the woodland path series, called Renewal.
9/12/20- Lake Road This week, come and visit Borrowdale Glass at the Crafts of the North fair, for the last time this year. This will be a great opportunity to get any last Christmas gifts sorted. The stall will be open from 10 am until 4.30 pm on the 10th, 11th and 12th of December only.
Don't miss out! http://www.craftsofthenorth.co.uk/ Crafts of the North, Congregational Church Hall, Lake Road, Keswick
8/12/20 An exciting new direction for Borrowdale glass Recent commission for a large contemporary piece (which I affectionally refer to as the 'wiggle piece!') from the 'Ripple series', which features 7 panels of different colours. Each has a variety of glass and dichroic on each panel, that allows them to catch the light. This is the first example of my glass being presented on a glass stand, giving it a more contemporary feel and making a bold statement. I look forward to experimenting with more modern ways of presenting my glass in future!
1/12/2020 Woodland Path Series Following on from my latest efforts, a new series has been created! I am really pleased with the Woodland Path series, which comes in 4 varieties- Evening (Dark Blue), Tranquillity (Turquoise), Harmony (Red) and Green which is not pictured yet.
18/11/2020 My absolute idol is an American glass artist called Alice Benvie Gebhart. I love her trees and landscapes and hope to do a course with her one day. I study her work closely and though I've no chance of getting the perspective and depth she has, I'm pleased with my latest efforts, one in lighter blue and one in a more 'moody' colour palette.
17/11/2020 Quite a few enquiries about the Moonlight on the Lake bowl....it began life as a picture in fact. It is made from only 3 colours- blue- black, midnight blue and white plus dichroic sparkle on the moonlit lake. Its 30 cm X about 12cm and comes in a black frame approx. 40 X 23 cm. £50. I have one pictured here, still hot in the kiln, but will be making more, as it's very popular! As it's hot, the colours are not yet true. It gets bluer as it cools!
16/11/2020- Deadline for Christmas orders Last date for commissioning Christmas pieces is 21st November please! There'll be lots for sale all the way up to Christmas ,but time for creating bespoke pieces is running out! Thank you.
6/11/2020 Lots of pretty Christmas trees! All ready to be made into cards. Each card contains a little self adhesive magnet to create a fridge magnet of the glass piece.
5/11/2020 Little Holly Berry Tealight! Very cute. £14.
4/11/2020 And now for something different...Baby dinosaurs for a mobile!
3/11/2020 Today's piece...Reflections in the Lake. This was inspired by a lovely photograph I saw once. The challenge was how to create the reflections. I used fine frit (crushed glass) for the leaves and then powder for the reflections. I added a touch of pink powder as I wanted to suggest dawn light. £50.
1/11/2020 Today's piece...…a seascape mounted in a white floating frame. I used white glass here as the base. It makes a good background for the delicate seascape colours. The background is created first using powdered glass, then fired. Then I used glass-line (glass paint) to draw on the reeds, birds etc. The stones are created using frit (small pieces of crushed glass). Then it's all fired again!! Lots of work goes into such a seemingly simple piece- £65
31/10/2020 A lovely commission in time for Armistice Day....a poppy mobile! Complete with heart shaped bails on the back of the poppies, it looks great in its new home!
26/10/2020 Glass for me: Glass for me!! Inspired by some lovely new bedding I bought recently, I created a piece for our bedroom in navy and gold. It's very sparkly! Very pleased!
24/10/2020 A bit of experimenting.. Still experimenting with the coloured backgrounds and trees. Here I've put my usual tree against a background of mainly one colourway. They all fit the Evening or Twilight theme.
23/20/2020 One for the keen chef From what I think of as my Kitchen Collection.....this is the Teapot Tower! Actually fiendishly difficult to create ( well for me!) I'm out of my comfort zone here, but I love making the crockery designs! Here framed in a pale wood. £65
21/10/2020 Been having fun creating cards for a crochet group! Hope they like them!
